Todd and Libby are back with the first part of a two-part podcast, and they’re surrounded by cats! They’re also answering 10 of your questions, handpicked by Libby, including thoughts that will almost certainly offend those of you who like Republicans, Dexter, and other terrible things. (Ha ha!) Also, a lot of theorizing about New Girl and some laughs.
Time code:
00:00.00-00:05.00 A new, underwhelming cold open and the return of less than ideal sound quality and it’s all the fault of stupid kittens, plus awesome music from Benjamin Shaw.
00:05.16-00:46.05 Answering Formspring questions: Libby’s Choice! Includes questions regarding A Gifted Man, scarring television, New Girl, Breaking Bad characters, terrible tv taste, the mancession, long-in-the-tooth comedies, Suburgatory, Ron and Tammy 2 vs. Ron and Tammys, and…
00:46.06-01:03.18 The Republican nomination process as reality television. (Ed. note: This is set off because Todd insists there may be Republican listeners. I remain dubious.)
01:03.19-01:08.47 All the places you can reach us when we inevitably disappear again. Wrapping up and more music from Benjamin Shaw. PLUS, an amazing Frank Fisticuffs bonus reel!

Todd and Libby have been away, but they return to tell you of their travels. This mostly just means they saw the Breaking Bad finale a while back and didn’t want to spoil it for you. But that means this episode is filled with talk of the show’s fourth season, with lots and lots of discussion of what happened and what WILL happen. Before that, though, we’ve got plenty of talk about the season’s new comedies, including Libby’s strange theories about one of her new favorites, Todd’s thoughts on why New Girl will eventually(?) get irritating, and some discussion of the wonders of Raising Hope. Who’s that Todd? IT’S TODD!
Time code:
00:00.00-00:5.15 Todd has a new, amazing impression that he’s taken the last month to perfect and the theme song to prove it. Many excuses about our absence and music from Shannon Curtis.
00:5.16-00:58.03 Let’s talk about new (and some returning) comedies. We break down our thoughts on Up All Night, Free Agents (R.I.P.), Whitney (plus, Jaime Weinman namedrop alert), New Girl (and Libby’s spin-off theory), 2 Broke Girls and the myriad issues contained therein, Suburgatory (and Libby’s horrifying, show-ruining theory), thoughts on Community and how it’s the WORST now, a brief look at Parks & Recreation. Also, *shudders* Glee. Plus, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, The Middle, Happy Endings and Raising Hope. Plus, ugly babies.
00:58.04-01:27.14 And the main event: Breaking Bad’s fourth season. Learn it, live it, love it.
01:27.17-01:31.02 All the places you can reach us when we inevitably disappear again. Wrapping up and more music from Shannon Curtis.

Guess what, America? The Emmys are tonight, and that means Erik and Ted have dropped by to tell us just what to expect (hint: disappointment). At the same time, Todd and Libby realize they’ve been gone too long and share their thoughts on the latest seasons of Breaking Bad and Louie, before talking a bit about the new shows that debuted last week and a few that debut this week. It’s a grand old time for everyone!
Time code:
00:00.00-00:8.01 Fun with the spoken word section. Awesome music from Sea of Bees. Todd is mean to Libby. Introduction of our guests Erik and Ted.
00:8.02-01:21.06 We take a look at the big Emmy categories we’re all wondering about and discuss what will and what should happen with each, including looks at the chances for Mad Men, Friday Night Lights, Boardwalk Empire, Louie and more. Chock full of trenchant analysis and also Libby says things occasionally. With more from Sea of Bees.
01:21.07-01:37.16 A look at Breaking Bad through three-quarters-ish of the season. Spoiler: We like it.
01:37.17-01:45.45 A brief discussion of the perfection of that was Louie, season two. Spoiler: We REALLY liked it. Plus, a bit about how it is really Todd who hates everyone and everything. And car fires.
01:45.46-02:15.52 Talking about what else came out this week, including Ringer, Free Agents, Up All Night and (wait for it) H8R. Plus, REALLY brief thoughts on the first two episodes of Parks and Rec and Libby talks about Zooey Deschanel.
02:11.28-2:22.41 What we’ll be covering next week (hopefully), grand mal seizures, more from Sea of Bees, more theoretical talk about merchandise and all the places you can find us on the internets.

Todd and Libby invite some guests over because apparently that’s the only way they can ever record podcasts anymore. Joining them this week are Alyssa Rosenberg of Think Progress and the Atlantic and Myles McNutt of Cultural Learnings and The A.V. Club. Included in the discussion are the surprise shows of the summer, whether Aaron Sorkin has made the Obama presidency seem more disappointing, just what’s up with Unforgettable, and the unrelenting racist overtones of True Blood. Enjoy!
Time code:
00:00.00-00:4.37 Todd’s special relationships and music from Viva Girls. Introducing this week’s guests, Myles McNutt and Alyssa Rosenberg.
00:4.38-00:52.26 We take a look at our summer TV happy places including Suits, Alphas, The Hour, Awkward., Switched at Birth, Downsized, Misfits and touch on some returning shows like, Rescue Me, Entourage, True Blood and Futurama.
00:52.27-01:43.24 Reader mail questions including: Frank Darabont and The Walking Dead, Glee 3D, revisiting shows you’ve soured on, Unforgettable, Michael Ausiello, rhetoric, Obama and The West Wing, conservatives and True Blood, Christians and Ayn Rand, the West Memphis 3, and things Libby likes.
01:43.25-01:46.12 Wrapping up. Where you can find us. Another call for merchandise suggestions and more music from Viva Girls.

After Todd spent three weeks at Comic-Con and TCA press tour, Todd and Libby are finally together again and recording podcasts. Included this week, discussion of ABC Family’s new show The Lying Game, plus cable’s three new fall drama pilots, Hell On Wheels, American Horror Story, and Homeland. It’s all capped off with discussion of the strange identity of Caspar Babypants, a look into Libby’s side-gig, and a very uncomfortable segment about knife-fighting and celebrity crushes.
Time code:
00:00.00-00:13.00 The greatest cold open in podcast history, coupled with the greatest song in podcast history. Coincidence? I think not. Where we’ve been and what to expect this week, plus a compare/contrast of Caspar Babypants and his POTUS alias. Finishing up with Todd upsetting Libby.
00:13.01-00:25.15 Special preview of The Lying Game premiering next week on ABC Family. Libby is angry and Todd doesn’t help matters. She seems to come around by segment end, thankfully.
00:25.16-00:34.19 Quick as a bunny thoughts (spoiler free) on Breaking Bad and Louie.
00:34.20-01:06.52 Brand new basic cable drama roundup! We’ve watched pilots for AMC’s Hell on Wheels, FX’s American Horror Story (sort of), and Showtime’s Homeland. The results are… unsurprisingly mixed but spoiler free throughout!
01:06.53-01:40.35 Reader mail! Five questions including: House’s casting decisions, the press and Comic Con, the legacy of Rescue Me, potential fraudulent co-workers, and the legendary sexing TOP 5. Plus, a bonus lightning-round five questions.
01:40.36-01:45.06 Wrapping up. The many places you can find us online. A call for comments asking for merchandise suggestions and guesses to the redacted entries of Todd and Libby’s celebrity top 5! More from Caspar Babypants.
